Obituary of Philip Schaeffler

Philip J. Schaeffler, 92, of Edison, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in Manhattan, NY, he was raised in New Brunswick, and was a resident of Edison most of his life. Mr. Schaeffler served in the Unites States Navy during World War II. He was a Postal Carrier with the Edison Post Office for over 30 years before retiring. He was an avid fan of baseball and enjoyed playing in his younger years and watching, especially the Yankees. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Zenobia Schaeffler of Edison; his two daughters Diane Kalegi and her husband Ed of Metuchen and Christine Schaeffler and her partner Pete Opinski of Spotswood; two grandsons Eddie Kalegi and Shane Opinski; his cousin Bill Hevert of Edison, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 3 at 9 am at Boylan Funeral Home 10 Wooding Avenue in Edison followed by a 9:30 am Mass at St. Matthew's R.C. Church, Edison. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at Alz.org.
