Obituary of Peter DiGiovanni

Peter J. Di Giovanni, 88, of Somerset, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Spring Hill Assisted Living in Somerset. Born in Franklin Township, he was a resident of Somerset most of his life. Mr. Di Giovanni served in the United States Army before being Honorably Discharged. He was the Owner and Operator of Guaranteed Towing in New Brunswick, one of the oldest towing companies in the state. He served the general public in emergency recovery and repaired police and fire vehicles throughout Central Jersey. He founded Twin County Ambulance Service in 1972, serving as the emergency service of New Brunswick, the forerunner of today's EMS system. His great love was his work transporting Greyhound Lines antique busses throughout the country in the 1980's. He was the founding Director of Tow Times, a tow trading journal. He was a Silver Life Member of the New Brunswick PBA Local 23, and was a parishioner at St. Peter the Apostle Church. He was predeceased by his wife Frances in 1974, his son Peter in 1962 and his brothers Mark, Anthony, Joseph, Guido, and Nicholas Di Giovanni, and his sisters Anne and Mary Di Giovanni, and Sally Brennan. Surviving are his son Mark Di Giovanni and his wife Jody of Somerset, grandsons Mark and Matthew Di Giovanni, great-grandson Milo Di Giovanni, and his sister Marie Dettmer. Funeral services will be held at 12PM Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue in New Brunswick. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 13 from 2-4PM and 7:30-9:30PM at the funeral home.
