Obituary of Florence Vajo

Marie F. Vajo, 86, passed away Wednesday June 22, 2016 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in the Middlebush section of Franklin Twp., she grew up in the Van Liew-Suydam house in Middlebush. She was employed by Douglas College and later Alexander library at Rutgers University, retiring in 1994. She enjoyed going to Curves and exercising with her friends, playing solitaire, watching General Hospital and other favorites. She enjoyed flea markets and antique shows and was a collector of Nippon China and old post cards. She was the collections curator and a member of the Metuchen-Edison Historical Society for many years. She was also a member of the Cedar Grove Cemetery Association in Middlebush. Marie was predeceased by her father, Benjamin Totten in 1938; her mother, Florence T. Gulick in 1993; step-father, Voorhees Gulick in 1973; brother John Totten in 2013; and her husband, William Vajo in 2000. She is survived by her son, David J. Vajo of Edison; daughters, Karen A. Colton of Snellville, GA, Diane M. Grant and her husband Roger of Fords, and Michele Blankenship and her husband Mark of Fishers, IN. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 27, 2016 at 10 am at Boylan Funeral Home 10 Wooding Avenue in Edison. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Middlebush. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 26 from 1-4 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Edison First Aid Squad, 33 Lakeview Blvd., Edison, NJ 08817.
