Florence Wiegartner

Obituary of Florence Wiegartner

Florence J. Wiegartner (nee Schultz) was called home to eternal rest on June 8th. She died peacefully at the Francis E. Parker residence in Piscataway. She was 89 years old. She was born on January 8, 1927 in Astoria, NY to Julius and Ethel Schultz. She grew up in Fairview and West New York, NJ along with her sister Mary and worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York prior to spending her life caring for her family. Affectionately known as "Toddy," Florence talked often of her wonderful childhood and time spent with close friends, including Veronica (Ragati) who would remain a lifelong friend and eventually become her sister-in-law. It was during her high school years at St. Joseph's in West New York that Florence met John Wiegartner, the love of her life. Florence and John were married for 64 years prior to his passing in 2013. They settled in Edison, NJ in 1958 where they raised 4 children. Florence was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Everything she did in life was for others and she always put her family first. John and Florence were original parishioners of the Church of the Guardian Angels in Edison where she was an active volunteer and dedicated member of the Rosary Altar Society. She had a strong faith and tremendous set of values. In 2007 Florence moved to the Parker residence complex in Highland Park and Piscataway where she received excellent care from the very dedicated team who worked closely with her. Florence was predeceased by her parents Julius and Ethel Schultz, her husband John C. and an infant son John Gerard (1958). She is survived by her loving children; Carol Ratoff and her husband Ronald of Edison, John J. Wiegartner and his wife Jeanette (Kania) of Plainsboro, Tom Wiegartner and his wife Charlene (Conklin) of Branchburg and JimWiegartner and his wife Amy Jo (Teiss) of Hamilton Square. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Woletz of Leonia. Florence was extremely proud of her seven grandchildren (Christopher, Amanda, Matthew, Melissa, Patric, Kathryn and Jack) and three great-grandchildren (Joshua, Jacob and Carleigh) whom she cherished and adored. Florence once expressed sadness that people only wore black to funerals. In honor of her joyful spirit the family requests, on Florence's behalf, that visitors wear a touch red, her favorite color, as we remember her kind heart and loving nature. Funeral services will be held at the Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Avenue in Edison on Monday, June 13th at 9:30 a.m. There will be a Mass at the Church of the Guardian Angels (37 Plainfield Avenue, Edison) at 10 a.m. followed by entombment at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday, June 12th from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to St. Peter's University Foundation's Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (254 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ 08901) in memory of Florence and her infant son John Gerard.
