Obituary of Thomas Boylan

Thomas F. Boylan, III, 87, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016 at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in New Brunswick, he was a lifelong resident of the city. Mr. Boylan served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was awarded a Letter of Commendation on April 18, 1947 for Action Above and Beyond the Line of Duty. He was employed in the Purchasing Division of Johnson & Johnson before retiring in 1990. He was Past Exalted Ruler of the New Brunswick Elks Lodge #324, Past President of St. Peter's Parish Council, was a member of the New Brunswick Charter Study Commission. He served as a New Brunswick Councilman for 8 years, and was a Middlesex County Freeholder for several terms. Mr. Boylan was Chairman for the Highways and Bridges Division, Engineering Division, Public Property, Central Vehicle, and Cultural and Heritage Divisions, and was a member of the Public Safety and Courts, Public Safety and Corrections, and Parks and Recreation Departments. He enjoyed fishing, golf, boating, and travel. He was predeceased by his parents Marita (née Hussey) and Thomas F. Boylan, Jr.; his brothers Richard and Gerald Boylan and sister Marita Clickner; and son in-law Hank Strauss. Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years Elizabeth Boylan (née Burns); his children and their spouses Thomas F. Boylan, IV and wife Diane, Michael W. Boylan, Bridget Weirnik and husband Stan, and Kelly Ann Petrone and husband Michael; his grandchildren Leslie Lapotasky, Adam and Neil Strauss, Christine La Cava, Matthew and Thomas F. Boylan V, Keri and Mark Petrone, and Hunter G. and Luke M. Boylan; as well as his great-grandchildren Haiden and Avery Lapotasky, and Daniel La Cava. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 9:30 am at Boylan Funeral Home 188 Easton Avenue in New Brunswick, followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's R.C. Church in New Brunswick. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 3 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the funeral home.
