Obituary of Sr. Mozgai

John Mozgai Sr., 90, of Edison, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015, at home surrounded by his family. Born in the Bonhamtown section of town, he was a lifelong resident of Edison. Mr. Mozgai was a veteran of Omaha Beach, serving in the United States Army during World War II with the 29th Division, 116th Infantry Regiment. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart as well as the Combat Infantry Badge. One of his proudest achievements occurred in November of 2012 when he was appointed a "Chevalier" of the Legion of Honor by the French President. The Legion of Honor is the highest decoration bestowed in France; at home his family lovingly and with pride would call him "Sir John". Mr. Mozgai retired from the General Services Administration as a Supervisor, working at the Raritan Center branch. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW Post #3117, the Disabled Veterans, and the 29th Division Association. Mr. Mozgai was the son of the late Denes and Mary Mozgai. He was predeceased by his grandson, Donald M. Buchanan, as well as his siblings. Surviving are his beloved wife, Susie Mozgai (née Varga,) of Edison; his daughter and son in-law Linda and John Larson of Edison; his son John Mozgai of Edison; 3 granddaughters Lauren Hurley, Sharon and Rachel Mozgai; 6 great-grandchildren Brendyn Hurley, Casey Sullivan, Gemma Hurley, Owen Sullivan, Nicole Buchanan, and Grace Hurley; his brother Richard Mozgai of Cherry Hill; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, March 29, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Avenue in Edison. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 30, at 7:30 pm at All Saints' Lutheran Church, 5205 Deborah Drive in Piscataway. Cremation will be private, with interment on Friday, April 3, at 10:00 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Metuchen.
