Mary Bodnar

Obituary of Mary Bodnar

Mary "Aunt Mary" Bodnar entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, surrounded by loved ones at St. Peter's Hospital. She was born on a farm in East Brunswick on June 5, 1921, to Gabor and Margit (née Lorincz) Bodnar, both of Hungary. They moved to New Brunswick in 1926. Like many others of her generation, Mary left school at age 16 to work and support her family. She was employed by Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick from August 1937 until October 1983. Mary was a lifetime member of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union AFL-CIO, Local 630, currently the ACWA. Mary was a frequent visitor to libraries, especially North Brunswick. No animals ever went hungry around Aunt Mary, she'll be missed by her cats Simba and Turk. She is predeceased by her parents, older sister Margaret, and her husband Vorhee Dunn, as well as her younger brothers Gabriel, James, Frank, and John. While Mary never married, she was like a mother and grandmother to all her five nieces and nephews and their spouses, and five great nieces and nephews and their spouses, and goddaughter, who survive her. Anyone who met Mary was touched by her sweetness and generosity during her time on Earth. Relatives and friends may attend visitation at the Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue in New Brunswick, on Tuesday, January 6 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by services at the Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Peter's Cemetery in New Brunswick.
