Obituary of Harriet Sojka

Harriet (Karagjozi) Sojka of North Brunswick, New Jersey passed away on March 15, 2024 surrounded by her family at home. Born to Adil and Helen Karagjozi on October 11, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, Harriet always held her Albanian heritage close to her heart. She later moved to New Jersey where she attended New Brunswick High School. Harriet’s journey from humble beginnings inspired in her a strong work ethic, which she passed on to her family. Harriet and her husband, Gene, shared a deeply loving and dedicated marriage. Harriet was a youthful and vibrant eighty-five year old who had a passion for traveling and enjoyed visits to the casino. Together with her husband Gene, she made wise real estate investments in Central Jersey and Long Beach Island. Her most notable attribute was her deep devotion and immense care for her family. Her legacy lives on through the close and beautiful family that she raised. Her family remembers her as a matriarch whose wisdom forged the family she lovingly-shaped. Harriet is survived by her four children; Cynthia Pressler Steenstra, Sherry Pressler Marbach, Chester Pressler III, and James Pressler; ten grandchildren, Nicholas Steenstra, Lisa (Steenstra) Lombardi, Megan (Marbach) Higgins, John Marbach, Melanie (Marbach) DeFusco, Chester Pressler IV, Melissa Pressler, Alison Pressler, Daniel Pressler, Natalie Pressler; and three great grandchildren, Alexandra Lombardi, Thomas DeFusco, and Madison Higgins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Sojka; her five siblings, Petrit, Murphy, Davis, Lillian, and Helen; and her lifelong friend, Arlene Grier Van Salisbury. A Viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20th from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 21st at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church in North Brunswick, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Burial Park in East Brunswick. Harriet will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will forever be a cherished treasure, a reminder of the enduring family legacy she built and nurtured. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests a donation be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, in Harriet's memory at http://www.t2t.org.
