Obituary of David E. Hill

David Elvin Hill (83) of Edison died Tuesday, April 11 at Complete Care at Whispering Woods/Assisted Living in Edison, New Jersey. Born in Stillwater, New Jersey, David spent most of his life in Sussex County living in Stillwater and Montague with his wife of 48 years, Sharon before moving to Edison in 2019. He graduated in 1959 from the New Jersey School for the Deaf, in West Trenton, Ewing Township, NJ (now known as the Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf). David excelled in his vocational training for autobody skills specializing in painting. David played football for the school. David loved making people laugh with his pantomime and loved dressing and acting as a clown. He was an avid fan of western film and music. He enjoyed crafting and woodworking with western themes. After graduation David worked utilizing his autobody painting skills at Trinity Motors and J.R. Roof Chevrolet in Newton for 12 years. David was sought for his skills by Condit Ford in Newton and retired from there after 33 years. David met his wife Sharon at Swartwood State Park where David’s father was Park Superintendent and the Stryker family owned a summer cottage bordering the park. David was predeceased by his parents, John W. Hill and Wilma Sipley Hill. He was also predeceased by his older brother, William C. Hill; and his nephews, Danny Jones and Shaun Hill. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Stryker Hill of Edison; and his sister, Sadie Gass of Newton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 16 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Avenue, Edison. Services will be private.
