Obituary of Nora May Van Bree

Nora May Van Bree, age 85 of Edison passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at home with her family by her side. Nora was born and raised in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada. She relocated to New Jersey in 1963, settling in Edison in 1965 where she has been a lifelong resident. Nora graduated from Teachers College, London, Ontario, Canada. After graduation she was an elementary school teacher. After relocating to New Jersey, Nora was employed as a substitute teacher. She later worked for the Internal Revenue Service where she held a variety of positions during her tenure. Nora’s favorite “employment” was the years she enjoyed raising her family as the world’s greatest stay at home mom. Nora was a life member and past President of the Edison American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Father and Son Post 435. She was a member of the Edison Italian-American Club, the Edison Senior Lindenau Social Group, and the Seniors Social Group at Guardian Angels Church, Edison. Nora was a long time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Fords. One of Nora’s proudest moments was in 1986 when she became an official United States Citizen. She was honored to be a citizen of this great nation. Above all, Nora was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Daughter of the late Avvil E. Smith, Florence Mabel Smith-Putt and beloved stepdaughter of the late Frederick Putt, Nora is also predeceased by her brother, William Smith; husband, Daniel Van Bree; and her grandson, Joseph Tomaszewski. Surviving are Nora’s five children, Wanda Shirley of East Brunswick, Daniel Van Bree of Edison, Kenneth Van Bree of Toms River, Karl Van Bree of Edison, and Kathleen Morrello of Colonia; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Avenue, Edison. A Service will be held during the Visitation beginning at 3:15 p.m., with The Reverand Christopher Sadlo, Pastor of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Fords. In keeping with Nora’s wishes, she will be privately cremated. In lieu of flowers, The family requests memorial contributions in Nora’s name be mailed to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 28 South 4th St., Fords, N.J. 08863.
