Obituary of Kelly A. Sommer

Kelly A. Sommer, 55, a lifelong Edison resident, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Rahway, after a courageous two and a half year battle with cancer. Kelly was a graduate of Edison High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and lettered in Softball and Marching Band. Kelly loved her thirty-five years of dedicated service in the Edison Violations Department. She retired as the Court Administrator for Edison township. In her free time, Kelly enjoyed trips to the beach and walks on the Seaside Boardwalk. She had a lifetime of incredible memories from her fifty years of vacations at Ocean Beach, NJ. For many years, Kelly and her mother coordinated their lunch breaks so they could watch All My Children together. Over the last few years, Kelly grew fond of family cruises to the Caribbean. A lifelong Giants fan, Kelly loved going to the games with her father and relatives. She also enjoyed watching the Yankees with her family and celebrating their championships in the Canyon of Heroes. Her greatest joy in life was watching her sons compete in sporting events for twenty years and watching them grow to be the men they are today. Kelly is survived by her husband, Duane Sommer; sons, Alex and Chris Sommer; her parents, William and Arleen Stephens and her brother, Michael Stephens. She is also survived by a large extended family who adored her. Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Monday, September 18, 2023 from 4-8PM at Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Avenue, Edison. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 9:30AM at St. Matthew the Apostle Church, Edison. Committal services will follow at Franklin Memorial Park.
