Obituary of Dorothy Rachilla

Dorothy Rachilla, 86, of New Brunswick, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Dorothy was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in Wilburton, PA. It was there that she met the love of her life, Edward. In 1961, Dorothy and Ed married and moved to New Brunswick where they raised their children. Dorothy worked for the Middlesex County Board of Elections for many years prior to her retirement. It was no secret to anyone who knew her that she had a kind, gentle and loving heart. Her children and grandchildren were everything to her. She especially loved attending her children and grandchildren's sporting events and dance competitions with Ed. Family came first for Dorothy and she always looked forward to her favorite day of the year, Christmas Eve dinner, which she shared with her family. She also enjoyed the many summer gatherings with family and friends where her famous macaroni salad was always on the menu. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Edward Rachilla in 2020; her daughter, Ann Marie Smalley in 2013; her parents, John and Tekla Herko; and her siblings, Anna, Mary, Helen, Irene, John, George and Joseph. She is survived by her son, Ronald Rachilla and his wife Stacey; her grandchildren, Amanda Rachilla, Amy Rachilla and Jake Rachilla, and grandchildren, Stephanie Smalley and Craig Smalley. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews who she cherished deeply. She was loved by many and will be truly missed and will never be forgotten.
