Joseph Veisz

Obituary of Joseph E Veisz

Joseph Edward Veisz, 71, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord Sunday, August 6, 2023, at his lifelong home in Edison, NJ Joseph was a powerhouse of a man who left those blessed to know him in awe of his mental and physical strength. This strength, coupled with his unrivaled will to live, allowed him to overcome the many obstacles he faced over the past ten years. He persevered through the unimaginable and, when he fell, he rose again even stronger. Even his illness took a back seat to Joe's never give up attitude. Joseph lived a very fulfilled life. He was a welder, a fisherman, a hunter, a gardener, and an animal activist. Joe was a simple man with a large, generous heart. He didn't need many things to make his day. A moment of solitude in his garage listening to Elvis Presley while drinking a Budweiser would make all the difference. In the summer, he enjoyed tending to his large vegetable garden and handing out his endless stock of vegetables to friends and family. He enjoyed Western movies, a good steak, and debating with Yankee fans why the Red Sox were the better team. He loved automobiles, from his first, a 62' Chevy, to his last, a 1996 Ford Explorer ("Baby"). He treated every car he owned like a luxury vehicle by keeping them clean, shiny, and bright. Joseph lived in Edison, NJ, his entire life. It honored Joe to purchase his childhood home and raise his children there. His favorite place to be was home. He is widowed and predeceased by his loving wife of 38 years, Mary. The couple married on Elvis Presley's birthday, January 8, 1983. Joseph was dependable, hardworking, and loyal. For decades he worked as a millwright/mechanic and welder for Lyondell Basell, formerly Akzo Chemicals. Joe's work ethic rubbed off on his son, Michael, who built on his father's vision of owning his own company. Joe's pride in JVS Industrial was well known as he would boast about its success daily. Joe was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ann Veisz (Sabol); his parents, Michael Viesz and Helen Veisz (Biro); his sister Helen Fitzgerald (Bootsie); and his brother Robert Veisz all of Edison. Joe is survived by his son, Michael Veisz, and his "daughter-in-law," Tracie (Joe's faithful friend and "second daughter") of Edison; daughter, Helena Connaughton, and her husband, Brian Connaughton of Easton, PA. Also surviving are two brothers, Jackie Veisz of Jackson and Michael Veisz of Monroe; and two sisters, Doris Campbell and Mary Smerecki, both of Edison. He will be dearly missed by his five grandchildren; Tyler, Jake, Declan, Kieran, and Kayleigh of Easton, PA. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews that all have made a mark on Joe's life and his on theirs. Joe was easy to love, and his heart drove all of his life decisions until the end. He had an allegiance to family and tradition that was unmatched. Joe's devotion to his family was evident during the final days of his life as they surrounded his bedside, expressing gratitude for the knowledge, support, skills, and guidance he selflessly shared. The message was clear, Joseph influenced and helped raise more than his own two children. He was larger than life itself, and his legacy will live on. Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Avenue, Edison. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 10,2023 at 11 AM, at Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Cloverleaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Finally, family and friends are encouraged to attend the repast at one of Joe's favorite restaurants, Ria Mar, in South River, NJ.
