Obituary of Carol C. Cassaday

Carol Catherine Cassaday, 76, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2021. Born in New Brunswick, she was the daughter of Peter and Catherine Tarantola. She lived in Highland Park briefly, grew up in Somerset, and resided in Piscataway for the last 50 years. She was a 1963 graduate of St. Peter’s High School. Carol was a Girl Scout, a volunteer candy striper at St. Peter’s Hospital, and went on to work as an aide in the maternity ward. She attended Middlesex College and was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Carol was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Fred; her son, Rick, and his wife, Michele, of Bel Air, MD; her son, Peter, of Piscataway; her grandchildren, Kaitlin, Eric, and Megan Cassaday, of Bel Air; her sister, Barbara Blazo, and her husband, Mike, of East Brunswick; her niece, Deborah (Blazo) Vandermillen, and her husband, Jim; her nephew, Derek Blazo, and his wife, Kristina; and nine grandnieces and grandnephews. Carol loved and was devoted to her widespread family, and she enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and to Italy to visit them. She volunteered at numerous Piscataway schools, the Piscataway Library, and with the Piscataway HS Superchief Band for nine years. She was an avid baker and cake decorator, making hundreds of cakes, cupcakes, and desserts, many for fundraising for local organizations. She also baked thousands of cookies each Christmas for family and friends. She volunteered with her husband with the Piscataway Rotary Club and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow for her service. Relatives and friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Monday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Ave, New Brunswick. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle Church, New Brunswick, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Hospital Foundation, 254 Easton Ave., New Brunswick, NJ 08901; The St. Peter the Apostle Church Capital Campaign, 94 Somerset St., New Brunswick, NJ 08901; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
