Ann Pfeifer

Obituary of Ann Pfeifer

Ann M. Pfeifer (née Riley), formerly of New Brunswick, N.J., passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at the Margaret McLaughlin McCarrick Care Center in Somerset, NJ, her home for the past five years. She was 82. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at the Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ. A mass of Christian Burial will be offered by her great nephew, the Very Reverend Msgr. Joseph Curry on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Virgin R.C. Church, Remsen Avenue, New Brunswick. Interment will immediately follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, located on Route 27 in New Brunswick. Relentlessly cheerful, generous and funny and extremely kind, Ann was born in New Brunswick in 1931 and was a lifelong resident of the area. After graduating from St. Peter's High School in 1948, she was employed as an executive assistant at Arnold Constable, the iconic New Brunswick department store and later joined H.R. Winarck, a cosmetics company, also in New Brunswick, as an administrative assistant. In 1968, she married William "Bill" Pfeifer and became a dedicated homemaker as well as a regular volunteer for various organizations within her beloved parish, St. Mary's R.C. Church and its elementary school. Her love of travel was hardly hampered by her fear of flying and she spent many wonderful - though lengthy - road trips to places like Washington DC, Georgia and Texas, often to join in Bill's annual reunion of Navy buddies from the U.S.S. Biscayne. She enjoyed these trips immensely in addition to her frequent winter breaks to Florida, where she basked both in the warm sunshine as well as the loving company of her dear sister-in-law, the late Angela Riley. In addition to her husband, Bill, Ann is survived by her son, William "Bill" Pfeifer (Mary Ann) of North Brunswick and daughter, Anne Ward (Michael) of East Brunswick, her cherished grandchildren, William Pfeifer of Plainsboro and Carter and Riley Ward of East Brunswick and her great grandchild, William Pfeifer, Jr. Also surviving are her beloved nieces, Betty Ann Foster of Joppa, Maryland and Helen "Peggy" Curry (Joseph) of Edison, her nieces Amy Czako of Corning, NY and Megan Czako, also of Joppa, in addition to Msgr. Curry, whom she affectionately referred to as "Fadda". Ann's family wishes to express their profound gratitude to Kate O'Mahoney, Barbara Richardson, Dr. Sushmita Srivastav, Elizabeth Dunleavy, N.P. and the entire staff at McCarrick Care Center for their continued support of Ann's wish to have the final chapter of her life marked by love, peace, dignity, faith and devotion. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged for the McCarrick Care Center to further enhance the music and entertainment programs that served as a great source of comfort to Ann in the final years of her extraordinary life.
