Obituary of John Hector Arroyo

John Hector Arroyo, 96, of Somerset, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at home. John was born in Brooklyn, New York where he lived most of his life. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army. John was employed as a Switchman for Verizon for over twenty years. He was also an artist having created beautiful paintings, which he exhibited at many shows/organizations. He enjoyed spending time in art museums especially at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC where he was a member. John also had a great passion for baseball. He was inducted into The New York City Stickball Hall of Fame in 2004, was a Scout for the Cincinnati Reds and an avid NY Yankee’s fan. John’s favorite pastimes were painting, listening to a variety of music, and watching every game of the New York Yankees. However, his most favorite pastime was spending quality time with his wife and family, being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. John was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Arroyo and Rosario Ramos; and a brother, Frankie Arroyo. He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Luz Maria (Visbal) Arroyo; children, John Jr. of Brooklyn, New York, Robert and his wife Donna of Arizona, Diana Landrum and her husband Fred of Piscataway, New Jersey, and Darlene Arroyo of South Plainfield, New Jersey; brother, Eddie Arroyo; and sister, Josie Arroyo. He also leaves six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, February 13, 2021 from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue in New Brunswick, New Jersey, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 149 South Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, New Jersey. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we regret that there will no repass after the services. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association at heart.org.
