Obituary of Ernest E. Bertha

 

Ernest E. Bertha, 88, of Edison, passed away on Saturday January 12, 2019 at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living, Edison. Born in Bonhamton, NJ to Joseph and Anna (Leves) Bertha, he resided in Edison most of his life. Ernest served in the US Navy from 1948 – 1949 as Seaman, he served 25 years with Edison Township Police department, retiring as Lieutenant Detective.  He continued to work after retirement with Wells Fargo Bank and the Metuchen-Edison YMCA until full retirement in his 70’s.

 

He was a Founding Member of the Edison Elks Lodge, #2487 and a member of the VFW.  He continued to take an active interest in the Edison Chapter of the Policeman’s Benevolent Association until his death. In his younger years he was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He took great pride in his family and the accomplishments of his children.

 

Survived by Lois Mae Bertha (nee Nelson), wife of 63 years, son Ernest G. Bertha and daughter Kathryn Lynn Wolff (nee Bertha); grandchildren, Andrew, Adam, Christopher, Gregory, Danielle and Eric, and great-grandchildren, Deacon, Lyanna, and Clay.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from 3-7pm at Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Avenue, Edison.  Ernest will be cremated privately with a private burial of cremains to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to the Grace Reform Church, 2815 Association. Woodbridge Ave., Edison NJ 08817 or to the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association.
