Obituary of Robert Grand-Jean

Robert E. Grand-Jean, 87, died at his residence in Edison, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, November 7, 2013. Robert was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born in New Brunswick and was a lifelong resident of Edison. He was the Captain of the Edison Fire Department before retiring in 1984; he also worked for Zach Painting Co. in Fords for 28 years. He was a Veteran of the US Navy serving during WW II. He was a member of Guardian Angels Church in Edison where he was an usher, he was a life member of VFW 3117 in Edison, a member of the American Legion Father and Son in Edison, a member of the Meadow Rod & Gun Club - Charter Member 53 years, a Life Member of Raritan Engine Co # 1, member of the exempt Association of Firefighters, and a life member of Local 9 Middlesex and Monmouth Police & Fire Retirees. He was a graduate of New Brunswick Vo-Tech in 1952. Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman. Robert was predeceased by his brother, Charles in 2002. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Janet (Frey); his daughter Karen and her husband Brian Daugherty of Edison; his son Bruce and his wife Cecilia Grand-Jean of South Plainfield; two granddaughters, Kristin and Jamie of Edison; his sisters, Eleanor Carter of FL, Claire Liapes of New Brunswick, twin sisters Katherine Arico of Asbury Park and Florence and her husband William Schneider of Monroe; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services are Monday, November 11th at 10:00 a.m. at the Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Avenue, Edison, followed by a mass at Transfiguration of the Lord Parish at Guardian Angels Church in Edison; interment will follow at White Church Cemetery in Edison. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, November 10th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mid Jersey Chapter, 28 Kennedy Blvd., Suite 180, East Brunswick, NJ 08816.
