Obituary of Mary Rose Harkins
Mary Rose Harkins, beloved wife of Daniel Leo Harkins, past away peacefully in her home on July 18, 2018 at the young age of 100 years and 10 months.
She was born in Trenton, NJ as Mary Rose Wilno on September 21, 1917. Married to D. Leo Harkins on May 17, 1944, they remained a loving couple for over 60 years.
Mary attended Ryder College in Trenton and was the first female employee of the NJ State Police, worked in the comptroller’s office and the library of Rutgers University. She was a member of the St. Peters Rosary Society and a volunteer at St Peters University Hospital with over 20,000 hours of service.
She is survived by her two daughters Kathleen and Maureen and son Shaun and his wife Rita. Mary will be fondly remembered by her 8 grandchildren; Gerry, Ricky, Kenny Compeau, Danielle Shultz, Jennifer Parilla, Michael Canning, Jonny and Casey Harkins and her 10 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Mary’s Amazing strength, her generous heart and radiant smile touched many and will live on all of us.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Friday, July 20, 2018 from 7-9PM at Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick; and Saturday, July 21 8:45 AM at the funeral home, with a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle Church, New Brunswick. Entombment will take place following Mass at St Peters cemetery, New Brunswick.
