Obituary of Robert Sorge

Robert Sorge, 80, a U.S. Navy veteran who served as a firefighter aboard the USS Tarawa and USS Coral Sea during the Korean War, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at home. A lifelong Edison resident, he was born May 16, 1933, and became the first male student at the Middlesex County Girls Vocational School, where he studied cooking. He retired from DuPont as an emulsioner in 1986. An avid fisherman, he took many trips to upstate New York and Canada with his brothers. He was predeceased by parents, John and Jeanne Sorge; sister, Gloria Hoover and beloved dog, Slipper. Robert will be sorely missed by his wife of 58 years, Claire Sorge (O'Reilly); son, Kevin Sorge of Norfolk, Mass.; son, David Sorge and Tammie Beardeaux of Edison; daughter, Susan Lombardo of Edison; daughter, Peggy Siminoff and her husband David of Edison; and three beautiful grandchildren, Valerie, Shane and Madison. He also is survived by brothers, John Sorge and his wife Marcia of Highland Park and Richard Sorge and his wife Loretta of North Brunswick; sister, Angela Karwoski of Glendale, Ariz., and many nieces and nephews. Respects can be paid from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Boylan Funeral Home, Wood Avenue, Edison. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to JFK Foundation Hospice, 80 James Ave., Edison, NJ 08818.
