Obituary of Bernard Edward Schrum, Jr.

 

Bernard E. Schrum, Jr. passed away peacefully on August 10, 2017.  He was 88.

Born in New Brunswick, NJ to the late Bernard and Jane Schrum, he was a resident of New Brunswick all his life.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army until his Honorable Discharge in 1947.  Bernard was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School and Seton Hall University with a B.S. in Business Administration.  He had a long career as a Licensed Master Plumber and later held the office of Construction Official for the City of New Brunswick until he retired in 1995.  He enjoyed real estate investing throughout his life. 

His family will carry fond memories of time spent with him in New Brunswick, down the shore in Point Pleasant, NJ and in Peru, Vermont. 

He is predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Jean, who he met in high school and remained his sweetheart until her passing in 2008, his daughter Elizabeth Cook, his parents, his sister Jane Hoebich, his brother Edward Schrum Sr., and brothers in law Walter Hoebich and Walter Klinger.

Mr. Schrum is survived by his sons William Schrum, of New Brunswick, Bernard and wife Patricia of Branchburg, Thomas and wife Maryann of New Brunswick, and Joseph and wife Susan of New Brunswick, and by his daughter Patricia Tomlinson of Somerset.  He is also survived by his son in law Philip Cook, his sister Rita Klinger, and his sister in law Concetta Schrum as well as by 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday August 13, 2017 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at the Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick.  Funeral Mass will be held on Monday August 14, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Matthias R.C. Church, 168 John F Kennedy Blvd, Somerset.  Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery will immediately follow Mass.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in his name to either Paralyzed Veterans of America, www.SupportVeterans.org, or to The Friends of the New Brunswick Library.
