Ivan Z. Holowinsky, 86, passed away at his residence in Somerset on Monday, July 1, 2013. He was born in Zarranycia Ukraine, and moved to Philadelphia in 1949 and then to Somerset in 1966. He was a Professor and an Associate Dean at Rutgers University, in the Graduate School of Education in New Brunswick. He was a member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society for many years. He was a Veteran of the Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He was predeceased by his parents, Basil and Maria Holowinsky; and his sister, Natalie Tanin. Ivan is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Natalia Holowinsky; his son, Yurij Holowinsky; his daughter, Mary Holowinsky; his brother, Andrew Holowinsky; his sister, Anna Maksymowych; 5 grandchildren, Roman, Christina, Anna Holowinsky and Andrew and Alexander Chen. Funeral services are Friday at 8:30 am parastas service at the Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick; followed by a 9:30 am Mass at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church; interment at St. Andrew's Cemetery in South Bound Brook. Family and friends are invited to come at 8am Friday, July 5th at the Funeral Home.
