Edith Boucher, 87, of Edison, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Regency Jewish Heritage Nursing Center, Somerset. Born in Belfast, Ireland, Edith reached out to her Uncle John in America, and he sponsored her to come here on Mother’s Day, 1959. She found a lot of joy here as she immediately made friends aboard the ship on the long trip over. Working in an office, she quickly made more friends and moved into an apartment with them. She always kept in touch with her friends and loved ones. Her nieces in Ireland enjoyed getting her cards and letters. Edith met her husband, Marcel, in 1960 and they were married twenty-eight years. After marrying and starting a family, they helped other relatives start a new life here in America. For a time, there were four adults and four children, under the age of five, living in a small apartment. It wasn’t unusual for her, as her small home that she grew up in, in Ireland, was crowded with her parents and six siblings. They moved to Edison in 1973, after buying their home. that they were very excited and proud of. Many family parties and sleepovers were held there as well as multiple children were babysat there. She was relied on for childcare for all four grandchildren and a couple of grand dogs. Some children that she babysat are now grown adults, and visited her for years, even up until her brief stay at Regency. There were so many memories in her home and there is soon to be more as her first great-grandchild will be raised there. Even though she didn’t drive, she loved to walk and go around to the grocery store and TJ Maxx, and CVS. She had friends who were faithful in visiting and taking her out shopping, or to the senior center. Her church was a source of comfort and support and when she could she often donated her time in cleaning up the church. She was always a very tidy person, keeping a well maintained home. Edith was predeceased by her husband, Marcel Boucher; and her parents, Andrew and Mary Marks. She is survived by her children, Peter (Deborah) Boucher and Andrea (John) Spero; along with her grandchildren, Ryan, Megan (Thomas), Shane and Kyle. Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Avenue, Edison; and Tuesday, February 7th at 9:00 a.m., with Funeral Services beginning at 10:00 a.m..
