Rita M. Bisogno, 99, of Somerset, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at The Avalon at Bridgewater where she had resided for many years. Rita was born in Jamesburg to the late Jasper and Mary Titone, and lived in Franklin Township for fifty years in a home that she and her husband Frank had designed and built to their specifications. Prior to her retirement in 1998, Rita worked for the Rutgers University Parking Department. Rita was predeceased by her husband, Frank Bisogno. Rita and Frank were sweethearts before he joined the U.S. Army and went off to fight in World War II. They married when he returned from the war. Frank was the love of Rita’s life and she marked their wedding anniversary even thirty years after his death. Both Rita and Frank were avid New York Yankee fans and Rita’s apartment at The Avalon was resplendent with Yankee memorabilia. Rita was also predeceased by her sisters, Laura Kish, Angelina DelCielo and Josephine Titone. Eventually Laura and Angie moved next door to Rita and Frank with their families which was typical of close knit Italian-American families of their generation. Rita is survived by her daughters, Lucille Poleshuck and her husband Lawrence of New York City and Mary DeWaters and her husband Daniel of Cape May; along with her grandchildren, Jason and Hannah DeWaters. Rita was a proud parent and loving grandmother who was especially delighted to hear the latest news from Jason or Hannah. Rita was an excellent Italian-American cook, often using fresh ingredients from her home garden when she was younger. During her early years at The Avalon, Rita enjoyed participating in cooking classes and occasionally led one. She convinced The Avalon to plant a vegetable garden for a time so that she could have fresh basil and tomatoes. Rita loved living at The Avalon growing to consider it her home and the staff her extended family. Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Monday, January 30, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick. A Funeral Service will be offered at 7:00 p.m.. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, January 31st at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Brunswick. All are welcome to gather at the Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m..
