Sarah was one of my oldest friends - we met on Livejournal, back when we were in high school. We meet in person in Japan after we both moved there and spent three years exploring Japan together.
Just weeks after the Great Tohoku Earthquake, Tsunami and Nuclear disaster, Sarah, myself, our mutual friend Kaki and Kaki's dog Pippy spent our days together, supporting each other through one of the most difficult times in our lives. The four of us (as Pippy went everywhere with us) sat out earthquakes together, explored the dark empty streets of Tokyo during the mandatory blackouts, and texted each other in the dead of night when aftershocks would wake us up.
Sarah was a constant during my time in Japan. We both loved fashion and would go to Shibuya and Harajuku to buy clothes on our days off. One of the workers at a shop called Sarah a "sexy nee-chan" (sexy older sister) and asked if we were girlfriends. Since then Sarah and I had fondly referred to each other as "sexy girlfriends".
One of my fondest memories of Sarah was when we went to Enoshima beach during the summer and got stung by jellyfish. Neither of us knew what to do and we were freaking out that something bad was going to happen so we rushed over to the first aid tent and all they did was spray us with vinegar. We laughed so hard and felt so silly.
After Sarah left Japan we met up a few times when she came to visit, and then again in Boston a year before she became ill. Even while she was sick Sarah kept in touch with me, checking in on me, connecting me with her family to help me with my own chronic illness diagnosis. Sarah had the biggest heart and she cared about everyone so deeply. She loved her friends, her family, and she was madly in love with her fiancé
Sarah was also a badass and she stood up for what was right and just. I learned a lot from that side of her.
I am so lucky that she was such a big part of my life and I miss her so much.
Rest in peace sexy girlfriend. I love you.

Sarah was kind, considerate, intelligent, and brave. I'll never forget her story or her sense of humor. My sincerest condolences to all of her loved ones, I'm proud to have been able to call her my friend and wish you all the very best during this impossible time. Rest in peace, Sarah.
