Ernest (Ernie) D. Malchiodi, 79, of Edison, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at JFK Medical Center, Edison. He served his country in the United States Army and worked as Credit Manager until his retirement from GMC Financial. Ernie grew up in Harlem, NY, moved to the Bronx after getting married in 1972 and eventually settled in Edison, NJ in 1982. Ernie’s favorite past time was to watch and cheer on his two children playing any sport. This was surpassed when his grandkids began their sports careers and a new passion unfolded. He played many basketball games with friends moving on to teaching and dominating the younger generations whether it was his favorite nephew, youngest brother-in-law and eventually his kids, until that fateful day his son won. When it came to professional sports the Mets always had his heart. He delighted in taking his loved ones to in-person games and sharing the splendor of the fanfare. Ernie enjoyed bowling and participated in various bowling leagues, perfecting his craft throughout the years. Five cent movies with his brother interjected with shorts of The Three Stooges were an extra special childhood memory as well as games of handball. Sharing a love of animals bonded him with his wife who grew up on a farm and an avid animal lover. Needless to say, his house was filled with love and a variety of animals through the years including a pot belly pig. Ernie’s guilty pleasure was acquiring gadgets or “As Seen On TV products” not only for himself but for loved ones as well. Ernie had an extensive vocabulary - there wasn’t a word he couldn’t spell or define when asked. He was admired for his loyalty, quick wit and hearty laugh. Devoted to family he always made them his top priority and he displayed this in every action he took. He relished spending time with his family and friends who will miss him beyond measure. Ernie was predeceased by his beloved parents, Dominick and Delfina Malchiodi. Ernest is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Patricia Malchiodi; son, Brian Malchiodi and his wife Shelley; daughter, Amber Malchiodi; brother, Peter Malchiodi; along with his perfect grandchildren, Matthew, Kyle and Charlotte. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Matthew the Apostle Church, Edison. Cremation was private.
