Natalia Maria Zmyj (nee Barylak) age 85 of Somerset, NJ passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 26, 2022.
Natalia was born in Lypytsia, Ukraine on October 21, 1936 and as a child immigrated to America with her family. She lived in Maplewood and Short Hills before moving to Somerset in 2015.
Natalia was a Teacher, Librarian, and Hospital Administrator. She was a member of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America and the Ukrainian Museum in NYC, and was an avid supporter of Plast USA (the Ukrainian Scouting Organization).
Natalia is predeceased by her parents, The Very Rev. Thomas and Sophia Barylak; her husband of 53 years, Eugene B. Zmyj; her brother, Dr. Edward Barylak; and her sister and brother-in-law, Irene Barylak Cehelyk and Dr. Bohdan Cehelyk.
Natalia is survived by her two daughters, Diana Zmyj Mandicz of Chester, NJ and Lydia Zmyj of Somerset, NJ; her brother, Maj (Ret US Army) Bohdan Barylak and wife Carol of Georgia; and her sister–in-law, Chrystina Barylak of Florida. Natalia also leaves two beloved grandsons, Alexander and Thomas (Toma) Mandicz; nieces and nephews; and extended family in Canada and Ukraine.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, April 1, 2022 at
St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1700 Brooks Blvd, Hillsborough, NJ for a 10:00 a.m. Viewing with an 11:00 a.m. Parastas Service. Burial will follow at St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Cemetery, 280 Main St in South Bound Brook, NJ.
In lieu of flowers during this Lenten Season, the family requests donations to support the humanitarian relief efforts for the Ukraine by Plast USA, the Ukrainian Scouting Organization.
