Obituary of Leokadia Zach

Leokadia Zach, (aka Lill), passed away on February 19, 2022. She was the third daughter of the late Adam and Veronika (Guzowski) Zach. Born in Brooklyn NY, she attended PS2, Dewey Junior High and Bay Ridge High School. Lill was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Czestochowa being a sodalist and a leader of a Girl Scout Troop. She was also involved in the parish bazaar, fashion show and any other fund raisers that they held. Lill loved to dance, especially Polish folk dances. She attended dance classes at Prospect Hall on Monday nights and performed at Carnegie Hall in the opera Halka. She came in 6th place at the Harvest Moon Ball at Madison Square Garden that was sponsored by the New York Daily News. Lill’s career spanned 30 years at AT&T, with some time spent with ABII and Lucent. Since her retirement from AT&T, she was active in the Telecom Pioneers, a service organization. She crocheted lap robes and volunteered at the Gift Shop in Bedminster. Whenever a project needed research, Lill would gladly spend hours on the PC getting the best. AT&T moved the family to New Jersey in 1975 where they became parishioners of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in New Brunswick. Lill and her sisters quickly became active with the Sodality, parish picnic and the Pulaski Day Parade where she was Marshal for Middlesex County in 1988. Lill along with her sisters ran the St. Joseph’s Polka Dancers who performed in various function in New Jersey and New York. She had a zest for life and everyone wanted to be in her great company. She loved to plan trips and travel around the world. In recent years she started bucket list trips around the USA, hitting many national parks. Her smile and laugh were constant and she was always known to be upbeat even in the hardest of times. She took every obstacle in stride with no complaints, including battling lymphoma for several years. Lill was predeceased by her parents, Adam and Veronika Zach; and her niece, Veronika Sportack. She is survived by her sisters, Eleanor Sportack, Josephine Dymowski and Marie Zach; and her nieces and nephews, Laura, Michael, Debi, Joe, Diane, Nick and Dolly. She also had many great and grand nieces and nephews who adored her. Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 26th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, New Brunswick. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lill’s memory can be made to St. Labre Indian School, P. O. Box 216, Ashland, MT 59003-9989 or Native American Veterans Assistance (NAVA), P. O. Box 3800, Rapid City, SD 57709-9824.
