Obituary of Gerda Rudzinsky

Gerda Rudzinsky, 97, of Somerset, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Parker @ Somerset. Gerda was a devoted wife, and a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who cherished family above all else. Gerda was born May 15, 1924 in Hamburg, Germany. She immigrated to Newark in 1951, met and married her husband, Lubko in 1954, raised her family in Irvington, and eventually settled in Somerset. Together with her husband Lubko, she owned and operated first a candy store in Newark and then a luncheonette in the Iron Bound section of Newark until her retirement in 1985. Gerda was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lubomyr; parents, Richard and Elizabeth Zwicknapp; brothers, Richard and Horst Zwicknapp; and a sister, Christle Schmolke. She is survived by her children, Walter (Julia) and Christine (Lubomyr); brother, Peter Zwicknapp; grandchildren, Daniel, Michael (Courtney), Natalie and Adrianna (Brenden); and great grandchildren, Grayson and Harper. She is also survived by her nieces, Marie (Bohdan), and Gloria (Matthew), and 3 nieces from Germany. Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Monday, January 10, 2022 from 8:30-10:30AM at Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in New Brunswick. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
