Robert Arnold Ellmyer Sr. “Bobby” died peacefully at home on May 13, 2021 after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Edison, he was born in New Brunswick to Robert and Dorothy (née Neihaus) on November 25th, 1946. He was a graduate of Edison High School, class of 1965. He joined the Edison First Aid Squad #1 at age 15. After graduation he enlisted in the US Air Force and proudly served during the Vietnam war. Upon his discharge he worked as a technician for 3M Company before joining the Edison Police Department where he rose to the rank of Captain before retiring after 34 years of dedicated service. Always ready to lend a hand he shared his leadership skills volunteering for the Edison Shelter Workshop as board president for many years. He also served on the board of the Edison Angels Softball, Edison Jets Pop Warner football, the Edison Township Planning Board and as a committee man for the Edison Democrats’ organization. He loved spending summers on his boat “Incentive”, navigating the New Jersey waterways and making trips to Connecticut, Baltimore and northern New York. Bobby met his future wife Cindy of almost 50 years in 1959 at the age of 12 while they attended Piscatawaytown School #3. They were childhood sweethearts throughout their entire school years. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years Cynthia Mae (née Hight) and 2 children: daughter Kimberly Mae, and son Robert A. Jr., his wife Tracy and 3 grandsons Brendan Robert, Connor Dennis and Logan Brian. He always enjoyed parties, poker nights and wonderful vacations with many friends. He will be remembered with much love and greatly missed by all who knew him. His knowledge, generosity of time and dedication to friendships is his legacy. His ability to start a conversation with anyone, anywhere with a story to share will be remembered vividly. Visitation will be Wednesday, May19th, 2 to 6pm at Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Ave, Edison. Cremation will be private.
