Obituary of William A. Donahoe

William Augustine Donahoe, Jr., (Bill) passed away on December 13, 2017 after a brief illness.  He was born on Feb. 2, 1933, in Dorchester, MA to Mary Fleming Donahoe and William Augustine Donahoe, Sr. He lived a remarkable 84 years and continues to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Alice O’Connor Donahoe, his sisters Theresa Donahoe Ellis, Mary Donahoe Walsh and Alice Donahoe Lynch, his 5 children, Maureen Donahoe, Kevin Donahoe, wife Nancy, William and wife Lori, Keith and wife Diana, Brigadier General U.S. Army Patrick Donahoe and his wife, Theresa, 11 grandchildren including: Kelly and her husband Buddy Kondikoff, Major U.S. Army Sean Donahoe and wife Jennifer, Marybeth, Patrick, Allison, Peter, Michael, Peyton, Parker, Brenna and Delaney; 2 great-grandchildren: Dyllan and Brady and many countless cousins, friends and neighbors that have also become part of the Donahoe extended family over the years and he was pre-deceased by his sister Clare Donahoe Martucci.

Bill was a “Double Eagle” graduating from both Boston College High School and Boston College, after which he proudly served his country in Korea in the U.S. Army as 2nd Lieutenant.  Upon his return, he married Alice O’Connor in 1958 and they moved to Edison, NJ, in 1961.  He worked for the Emigrant Savings Bank until he retired as the CFO in 1989.   During his career at Emigrant he successfully completed the American Bankers Association program at Brown University and the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University.

Along with Bill’s great love for spending time with his family was also his passion for traveling the USA and the world, history, continuous learning, keeping his house thermostat in the ‘comfort zone’, studying Gaelic, doing crossword puzzles, red wine, telling corny jokes, the St. Vincent DePaul Society in which he was very active, Maureen’s lemon meringue pie and carving the Thanksgiving turkey with expert precision.  He was a skilled conversationalist that could discuss any topic with anybody with intelligence and humor.  Everyone who met Bill liked him.  Everyone that knew him loved him.
